One of my favorite books is by Frank Betteger. In that book, Frank talks about his early days playing in what might be know as major league baseball back then. As I recall, Frank lasted one season. It certainly doesn't sound like a major accomplishment, does it? Yes, Frank was demoted down to the "bush leagues". Frank was pretty upset but he got the nerve to ask his manager why he was being cut and sent down.
I believe the conversation went something like this.
Frank: Why am I being sent down? I need to know.
Manager: Frank, do you care about this game?
Frank: Of course I do. Best game in the world.
Manager: Well you don't show it! You stagger around the field and shuffle your feet like you're an old man who couldn't give a damn about the sport. We're not going to pay you $125 a month for performance like that Frank. You're being let go and sent down because you're too damn lazy.
Frank didn't want to tell anyone that he actually did that to hide his nervousness and so that people would think he was a seasoned pro and not hit anything his way out in the field.
So Frank went from $125 a month in the major leagues back down to the bush leagues where he made $25 a month.
But Frank took what the manager said to heart. Frank was determined that no one was ever going to call him lazy again and that he was going to be the most enthusiast person on the team.
On the first game Frank had back down in the bush leagues it was about 100 degrees. Frank wasn't about to let that stop him. He was bound and determined to be the most enthusiastic fellow on the team no matter what.
From the moment began Frank was alive with excitement. Frank dodged here and there, dove to catch balls he never would have tried for in the past and he hummed the ball around the baseball diamond so fast that other fellas were taking off their gloves from the sting. Despite the heat and the sweat pouring down him Frank kept it up through the entire game.
Back in the locker room another player said to him "Hey Frank, what the heck are you doing down here in the bush leagues? I can't imagine why they ever let you go."
In the newspaper the following day they reported, "Our boys looked more alive today than they ever have in the past. It was an exciting day at the ball park. Pep Betteger never looked better as he lead our boys to victory."
Frank realized that the more enthusiasm he put into his ball playing, the more the rest of the team got excited with him and the bettter they all played as a team. They followed the lead of Pep Betteger and his enthusiasm became contagious.
Frank sent the newspaper clipping to his former manager. You can just about imagine him falling off his chair as he read the article about Frank "Pep" Betteger who was let go just two short weeks before for being 'lazy'.
Within another few short weeks Frank was up in the big leagues again making $145 a month.
So what is the moral of this little story?
Nothing except sheer enthusiasm and enthusiasm alone caused Frank Betteger's income to quadruple in less than four (4) short weeks. Enthusiasm is contagious and it can turn you around faster than you can imagine in whatever you do.
So stop the doom and gloom. Forget the negative talk! Supercharge yourself with enthusiasm and see what it will do for you!
Nothing but pure enthusiasm caused Frank Betteger's income to quadruple in less than four (4) short weeks and it can happen for you!
See it!
Believe it!
Achieve it!
