One obvious way to make money online is to create a website around a keyword or phrase that is not highly competitive. I suggest a blog because you can blog about anything. Keep blogging until you get your site up in the top results in Google. Once you bring your site's popularity up so that people will be going to it on a regular basis then you can offer advertising based upon the exposure that you have.
My wife has done this in the past and made $300 per month just in extra advertising revenues. It certainly can be done. Just put a block that says "Advertise Here" with a link to your email address in the spot where you will take the advertising or you can set up a residual subscription through PayPal and Direct them there first. That way you get paid, get their information and can contact them about the advertisement.
